Shallow Gal has been slow on the uptake!!! Style.com’s print edition hit the stands on October 31st (in midst Halloween slutty/drunken craziness)

Luis Venegas who composed Candy/Electric Youth/Fanzine just finished up I Know You From New York, a 236 page compilation of photos documentating what he (and I) feel is the best nightlife scene in the world—NYC.

I say? It’s about DAMN time.  New York is the best. Not because we are the most chic, most decadent, or even due to originality. We simply know how to get down. It’s not about exclusivity here… it’s if you are cool/ fun/ somehow wiggled past the door man, you’re worthy of anything/everything this city has to offer.

The documentarians for this project were Hanuk, Jeremy Kost, JD Ferguson, Gerard Estadella, Derek Blasberg—along with (yawn) Patrick McMillian, Ron Gallela.

Quite a few of these pics were either published or something very like them. This isn’t entirely new territory, but it’s still worth treading. Nightlife photography is rapidly emerging as a viable art medium. So many blogs 9like me!!!) and social media outlets rely upon interest on quick snips of all those amazing moments in life, so they never fully pass by.

There are some decent scattered parties here/there….. but I’ve been itching for a reason to go to Riff Raff, and I’ve found it! CHROMEO! Who doesn’t heart this francophone duo might be the only successful Arab/Jewish collaboration in history. They sweat swag, producing nu-disco classics and forming a bridge between hiphop’s club banger heyday and the incoming wave of electro.

Best part? A free taste of what thousands are paying for to see them on tour! Riff Raff is beautiful inside. The people are cool. And the face paint? Oh my!

White wine has always given me my best drunks. Giggly, physically tipsy, and it hits fast. Gulp down two glasses and you’re half way to heaven. It’s pretty economical considering it has proven nutritional value. You don’t need to feel guilty for skipping dinner.

Andre Goichot Cotes du Ventoux Blanc 2009, $12
Sweet n’ smooth like honey with distinct apple/pear undertones. Not overly dry.

Wolffer Estate Big Apple Wine NV, $11

Rare white wine in that it has no after bite. Made from apples instead of grapes, it’s sooo sweet, you might have to put a lil gin in it for some extra kick. But the sweetness is very adult. A floral aroma and delicate finish make it a worthy excursion from your typical bottle.

Antech Blanquette de Limoux Grande Reserve Brut $15

Hailing from the South of France, this is not officially champagne (it’s cheaper), but it’s made in the arguable birthplace for this worldwide treasure. Unlike the others, it’s not sweet. It’s yeasty, warm…nice creamy bubble. This skank comes cheap. Tastes expensive.

Au bon Climat Chardonnay, $16

Not your typical Chardonnay. Toasty oak bits mingling amongst hazelnut and pear notes. This bottle is sold on the balance.

Segura Viudas Brut Cava, $10

LOW IN SUGAR!!!! At 7g for a bottle, it’s perfect for no guilt, lots f sparkle. Taste is full, rich—especially in cheap whites. Look forward to a distinctly almond aftertaste.
