The hottest pop-up club in New York has had its bumps along the way. Held in the basement of Jobee’s in Chinatown, no cabaret license and a wavering liquor license equals multiple shutdowns by the NYPD. But you can’t hold a good thing down. After the last shutdown, Simonez (Beatrice Inn mastermind/ Le Bain Door man) had it up and running within a week.
So where did the name Madame Wong come from? I am not sure, but I would guess the beloved Don Hill style, punk-rock club in LA that inspired the Andy Warhol flick (Madame Wang).
But this Madame doesn’t play punk rock; its all about disco. Expect to hear the likes of Japanster(Sat Resident) and Justin Miller.
Madame Wong is one of several band-aids popping up to cover the gaping wound left by the illusive Le Baron on NYC’s nightlife. All of the twenty somethings that hate bottle service but love to get down 4-5 times a week NEED something new and cool and exclusive. Enters Simonez Wolf.
According to urban myth, he sends out a password and party notifications via email. I will be finding out tomorrow night as he personally gives me the run down on his shindig.
